Federal departments and agencies that deal with ocean or weather issues must pick a senior policy official to serve as an observer on the Committee and help when needed. The Committee can ask any federal department, agency, or independent body for information or help. Those agencies may cooperate and, if the law allows, provide what is asked when the Committee Chair requests it, without getting paid back. The Secretary of Commerce must give the Committee the staff, information, personnel, and administrative help it reasonably needs to do its work.
