Title 34 › Subtitle Subtitle I— Comprehensive Acts › Chapter 101— JUSTICE SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT › Subchapter I— OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS › § 10108
DOJ grant money for a fiscal year can only be awarded and given out in that year and the next three fiscal years, unless the authorization says something different. If the money is reprogrammed into a later year, it is treated as money for that later year. If money was committed (obligated) and later released (deobligated), the time it stays available is extended by the same number of days it was committed. When a grantee gets the funds, they may spend them only during the time the grant allows. Any money not spent will be deobligated (returned as unspent). "DOJ grant funds" means the amounts set aside for Department of Justice grant programs in a fiscal year. These rules apply starting with fiscal year 2006.
