Stealing, hiding, misusing, or getting by fraud any money, property, or assets from grants, contracts, or other assistance under this chapter is a crime. This covers funds that come directly or indirectly from the Office of Justice Programs, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the National Institute of Justice, or the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Anyone who does these things, tries to do them, or knowingly keeps or hides such stolen funds to use for personal gain can be fined up to $10,000, jailed for up to five years, or both.
