When a public safety officer is killed or suffers a permanent and total disability from a serious on‑duty injury while working to prevent, investigate, rescue, or recover from a terrorist attack, and the officer’s public agency sends a certification naming who should get benefits under section 1201, the Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance must approve the payments called for in subpart 1 of part L of that Act and have those payments made within 30 days of getting the certification. The words "catastrophic injury," "public agency," and "public safety officer" use the definitions in section 1204 of that Act.
