Title 34 › Subtitle Subtitle I— Comprehensive Acts › Chapter 101— JUSTICE SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT › Subchapter XI— PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS’ DEATH BENEFITS › Part B— Educational Assistance to Dependents of Civilian Federal Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Disabled in Line of Duty › § 10302
Gives money for education to people who are either the child of an eligible public safety officer under part A, or the officer’s spouse when the officer died or suffered a total, permanent disabling injury. The payments go straight to the student and are figured under 38 U.S.C. 3532; they can be reduced by an amount from section 10304(b). Aid is limited to 45 months of full‑time schooling (or the same proportion for part‑time). A child usually stops being eligible after turning 27 unless the Attorney General finds an extraordinary reason. If approval of the application or a related part A claim is delayed more than 1 year, the 27‑year limit is extended by the length of that delay.
