Title 34 › Subtitle Subtitle I— Comprehensive Acts › Chapter 101— JUSTICE SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT › Subchapter XI— PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS’ DEATH BENEFITS › Part B— Educational Assistance to Dependents of Civilian Federal Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Disabled in Line of Duty › § 10306
Spouses and children of a federal law enforcement officer or a public safety officer who was killed on duty on or after January 1, 1978, can get help under this program, subject to the program’s other rules. The Attorney General must give backdated (retroactive) help for each month the eligible person attended an approved school, unless the person already received future (prospective) help. The same program limits apply to that backdated help. The Attorney General can also give future help on the same basis as other people. Any backdated help must be counted toward the program limits when giving future help. A person may choose to refuse backdated help and only apply for future help.
