§10426 National Training Center for Prison Drug Rehabilitation Program Personnel

Summary

The Director of the National Institute of Corrections must set up and run a national training center, after consulting people who know about community-based drug rehabilitation. The center can be at any suitable location and will train federal, state, and local prison and jail staff to run drug rehabilitation programs for people convicted of drug-related crimes and for drug-dependent inmates. Training will include correctional officers, administrative staff, and correctional mental health professionals, including staff from subcontracted agencies. The Director must also design and build the center’s facilities. Congress allowed up to $4,000,000 for each of fiscal years 1989, 1990, and 1991 for starting and running the center, making curriculum, and staff salaries and expenses, and up to $10,000,000 for each of those fiscal years for designing and building the facilities.
