Title 34 › Subtitle Subtitle I— Comprehensive Acts › Chapter 121— VIOLENT CRIME CONTROL AND LAW ENFORCEMENT › Subchapter III— VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN › Part G— Training and Services To End Abuse Later in Life › § 12421
The Attorney General must give grants to qualified groups to prevent and respond to abuse of older adults. Grant money must pay for training for police, prosecutors, courts, victim service providers, advocates, and others to spot and handle abuse in later life; improve services for older victims; build or support local teams that work together across agencies; and run cross-training for health workers, attorneys, faith leaders, first responders, and others who help older people. Groups can also use money to train other professionals or to run outreach and awareness campaigns, but outreach can be no more than 10% of the grant. The Attorney General can skip required activities if they would duplicate local services. Eligible groups include states, local governments, tribes, population-specific organizations, victim service providers, and domestic violence or sexual assault coalitions. Applicants must be part of a partnership that at least includes law enforcement, a prosecutor’s office, a victim service provider, and a nonprofit or agency experienced with people 50 or older. Priority goes to projects serving culturally specific and underserved populations. Congress authorized $10,000,000 each year for 2023 through 2027.
