Title 34 › Subtitle Subtitle I— Comprehensive Acts › Chapter 121— VIOLENT CRIME CONTROL AND LAW ENFORCEMENT › Subchapter III— VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN › Part K— Strengthening America’s Families by Preventing Violence Against Women and Children › § 12461
Congress says domestic violence is closely linked to harm to children. It lists eight findings showing that domestic violence may be a leading cause of child abuse deaths; about 10,000,000 children witness domestic violence each year; seeing violence at home makes children and teens more likely to act violently; children whose parents did not get home-visiting help were almost 5 times more likely to be abused in their first 2 years of life; exposed children are more likely to become victims of partner violence as adults, more likely to think violence solves relationship problems, and more likely to get involved in juvenile crime; and a national survey of more than 6,000 families found that 50 percent of men who often assaulted their wives also often abused their children.
