The Department of Justice must have an Office for Victims of Crime. The Office is run by a Director picked by the President. The Director reports to the Attorney General through the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs. The Director has final control over all grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts the Office gives. The Director must not have any other job or hold a position in any group that has a contract with the Office. The Director must manage money made available under section 20101, give funds to eligible States under sections 20102 and 20103, and set up programs under section 20103(c) on terms the Director finds consistent with that subsection. The Director must work with and help States, local governments, public and private groups, and international agencies that serve crime victims. The Attorney General may assign other tasks to the Director.
