Congress lets two or more States, acting through their adult protective services agencies, make agreements or compacts to work together. These agreements are for keeping elders safe and helping enforce each State’s laws and policies that protect older people. The Executive Director of the State Justice Institute must talk with state and local adult protective services, aging, social and human services, law enforcement, national nonprofit experts on criminal justice data sharing and elder abuse, and the Secretary of Health and Human Services. After that, the Director must send Congress proposed laws to help make these interstate agreements easier.
