Defines key words used for criminal history checks and for people and groups that provide care. Authorized agency — a state office that reports, receives, or shares information under this chapter. Child — anyone who counts as a child under a State’s criminal child abuse law. Child abuse crime — a state crime that harms or neglects a child, including physical or mental injury, sexual abuse or exploitation, negligent treatment, or maltreatment. Child abuse crime information — identifying facts about a person arrested for or convicted of such a crime, including full name, race, sex, birth date, height, weight, fingerprints, a short description of the offense, how the charge was resolved, and other ID details the Attorney General allows. Care — services like treatment, education, training, supervision, or recreation for children, the elderly, or people with disabilities. Identifiable child abuse crime case — a case that can be picked out in criminal records by its law citation or label. Individuals with disabilities — people with mental or physical impairments who need help with daily tasks. National criminal history background check system — the FBI’s criminal history database using fingerprints or other positive ID. Covered individual — someone who has or might have access to children, the elderly, or people with disabilities through a qualified entity and who works, volunteers, seeks to work or volunteer, or owns or runs (or seeks to own or run) that entity. Qualified entity — any business or organization, public or private, that provides care or arranges care, including those that license or certify caregivers. State — includes the States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Trust Territories of the Pacific. Designated entity — an organization the Attorney General names under section 40102(f)(2)(A).
