The Attorney General must give grants to improve forensic DNA tools so they become more accurate, faster, cheaper, and easier to use outside a lab. The Attorney General must also fund demonstration projects that train police and other criminal justice partners, test DNA alongside other forensic methods, and scientifically measure public safety gains, effects on law enforcement operations, and cost-effectiveness. Up to $5,000,000 may be provided for each fiscal year 2017 through 2021 to carry out these grants.
