Even if other laws say something different, all data made by or sent to the Attorney General or the FBI about homicides, about law enforcement officers who are killed, seriously injured, or assaulted, or about people killed or seriously injured by officers must say whether mental illness was involved, if any. The Attorney General had to write or update rules to make this happen within 90 days after December 13, 2016, and the requirement began 90 days after those rules were issued.
