The Attorney General must create a National Gang Intelligence Center and a gang information database that the FBI will house and run. The Center must gather information about gang activity from many federal agencies (for example the FBI, ATF, DEA, Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Marshals, HUD, DHS border and transportation unit, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs), and from tribal, state, and local police, prosecutors, probation and parole offices, and prisons and jails, among others. The Center must study the information and share it with federal, tribal, state, and local law enforcement, corrections, prosecutors, and other appropriate groups. It must send Congress a yearly report on gang activity. Congress authorized $10,000,000 for fiscal year 2006 and for each fiscal year thereafter to carry out this work.
