Within 90 days after April 9, 2008, the Director of the Bureau of Prisons must create and use a policy that lets people who mentor someone in prison keep mentoring that person after they are released. Mentoring can only be stopped if the Director shows it would be a serious safety risk to the released person, other inmates, the mentor, or anyone else. By September 30, 2009, the Director must send Congress a report on how the policy was put into effect and followed.
