The corporation must name a person in Washington, D.C., to accept legal papers for it and file that name with the clerk of the U.S. District Court in D.C. If papers are given to that person or mailed to their address, the corporation is treated as having been notified. To use any powers in a State, the corporation must also give that State’s secretary of state (or other chosen official) the name and address of a person in that State who can accept legal papers for the corporation.
