The corporation must raise, accept, and manage private donations to protect and make available the nation’s film history at the Library of Congress and other public or nonprofit archives, and to bring American films back from archives in other countries. It must also support the Library of Congress and the National Film Preservation Board in their work under the National Film Preservation Act of 1996 (2 U.S.C. 179l–179w) and run projects, alone or with others, to preserve and share U.S. films—especially those not owned by private parties—for current and future Americans.
