Title 36 › Subtitle Subtitle I— Patriotic and National Observances and Ceremonies › Part B— United States Government Organizations Involved With Observances and Ceremonies › Chapter 21— AMERICAN BATTLE MONUMENTS COMMISSION › § 2108
The American Battle Monuments Commission must restore, run, and take care of the Pacific War Memorial and other historical sites on Corregidor after the U.S. and the Philippines make an agreement. The Commission can hire staff and get help from other U.S. agencies if those agencies are paid back. It can also ask for and accept private donations and should use private money first unless Congress gives money. A special fund in the U.S. Treasury will hold donations and any interest or sale proceeds. The Commission’s chair puts donations into the fund and the Treasury credits the earnings. Money not needed right away can be invested in U.S. government securities chosen by the chair. Any extra money above the cost of the work goes back to the Treasury to repay any government money used. Up to $6,000,000 is authorized for site preparation, design, planning, construction, and related costs, and additional amounts may be provided as needed to operate and maintain the sites.
