A board of governors runs the corporation. The board sets overall policy and controls the corporation’s programs, affairs, and property. Board members are elected by the corporation’s members for the terms and classes the bylaws set. The board must include six members the President appoints, the Secretary of Defense (or the Secretary’s designee), and representatives of the civilian organizations listed in section 220102(4) and of the public, as the bylaws provide. The corporation may create other governing groups or committees in its bylaws. The corporation must offer the honorary chairman role to the President. If the President accepts, that person may be asked to preside at meetings they find appropriate. The corporation may have other officers as its bylaws allow.
