The corporation must have a named agent in the District of Columbia to accept legal papers. If the agent is handed the papers, or they are mailed to the agent’s business address, that counts as giving notice to the corporation. The corporation must also give the agent’s name and address to the secretary of state or a similar official in each State, territory, or possession of the United States where it or its groups have activities.
