A national governing body for a sport may represent the United States to that sport’s international group, set and promote national goals, serve as the main coordinator for amateur sports in the U.S., approve and control international amateur events in or sponsored by the U.S., run competitions (including national championships) and set who is eligible to compete (except for competitions named in section 220526), recommend athletes and teams to the corporation for the Olympic, Paralympic, Pan‑American, and Parapan American Games, and pick and certify athletes and teams for other international amateur events under the applicable international rules. If a different amateur sports organization is declared, after binding arbitration under the corporation’s rules, to replace that governing body as the corporation’s member for the sport, the original governing body can no longer exercise those powers for that sport.
