§220530 Other Amateur Sports Organizations

Summary

Require certain amateur sports groups to follow the child‑abuse reporting rules in section 226 of the Victims of Child Abuse Act of 1990 (34 U.S.C. 20341). They must set rules so a minor athlete is not alone one‑on‑one with an adult who is not the minor’s parent or guardian at a facility the group controls, except in an emergency, and the adult must be within sight and able to be interrupted by another adult. They must give regular training to all adults who regularly work with minor athletes, and with parent permission to minor members, on preventing and reporting abuse so someone can easily report to the right people. The organization must not punish anyone who makes a report required under section 226 or any report about emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. An "applicable amateur sports organization" means a group that is not covered by subchapter III, that takes part in interstate or international amateur competition, and that has adults who are regularly in contact with minor athletes.
