The corporation must be set up only for charitable and educational reasons and it has nine purposes. These are: support the U.S. Constitution and laws; promote the American ideals defended by those who qualify for membership; help wounded, injured, and disabled American veterans; work with the Department of Veterans Affairs and other groups to improve veterans’ health and well‑being; build loyalty and friendship among veterans; serve veterans, communities, and the nation; teach the public about veterans’ sacrifices and needs; inform disabled veterans about benefits and resources; and promote understanding to help prevent future wars.
