Title 37 › Chapter 5— SPECIAL AND INCENTIVE PAYS › Subchapter I— EXISTING SPECIAL PAY, INCENTIVE PAY, AND BONUS AUTHORITIES › § 303b
If the Secretary of Defense finds a deployment stopped a medical member from getting board certified, that member can still get the special pay they otherwise qualified for. They must finish the required board certification or recertification within 180 days after leaving the contingency duty (the Secretary can extend that time). The pay covers the active-duty time from when they were sent to the contingency until the date they complete certification. Applies to medical or dental officers and nonphysician health-care providers who have finished required residency and who would otherwise be eligible for the special pays listed in 302(a)(5), 302b(a)(5), 302c(c)(3), or 302c(d)(4) except for the board-certification rule.
