Military band leaders must get specific allowances based on rank. The Army Band leader gets the same allowances as an Army captain. The leader of the U.S. Navy Band gets the same allowances as a Navy lieutenant. A Marine Corps director or assistant director appointed under section 8287 gets the allowances of the grade they hold while serving, but never less than they had when appointed. The Naval Academy Band leader gets the pay grade set by the Secretary of the Navy under section 207(e), and the second leader gets warrant officer W–1 allowances. The Coast Guard Band director gets the allowances of the grade they serve in, but not less than at the time of appointment.
