§463 Programs of Compliance; Electronic Processing of Travel Claims

Summary

Department heads must run programs that stop inaccurate, unauthorized, inflated, or duplicate travel claims and make sure payments match actual travel costs or fair commercial rates. The programs must use near-real-time electronic checks and other methods. By no later than five years after the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 became law, travel claims must be processed electronically, unless a department waives it for a specific claim. Electronic processing follows rules from the Secretary of Defense under section 464 of this title and must apply the same way to uniformed service members and, when practical, to other travelers.
