Title 38 › Part II— GENERAL BENEFITS › Chapter 17— HOSPITAL, NURSING HOME, DOMICILIARY, AND MEDICAL CARE › Subchapter VIII— HEALTH CARE OF PERSONS OTHER THAN VETERANS › § 1788
If a veteran can get a transplant from the VA, the VA may arrange the surgery on a living donor even if that donor would not normally qualify for VA health care. If money is available, the VA must give the donor any needed care before and after the transplant. The VA can have the surgery and care done at a non-VA hospital under an agreement, and the donor will be treated as eligible at that hospital only for getting the operation and related care.
