Summary

For insurance purposes, permanently losing the use of both feet, both hands, both eyes, one foot and one hand, one foot and one eye, one hand and one eye, complete loss of hearing in both ears, or loss of speech from organic causes must be treated as total disability. This does not stop any other cause of disability from also being recognized.

Title 38, §1914

Without prejudice to any other cause of disability, the permanent loss of the use of both feet, of both hands, or of both eyes, or of one foot and one hand, or of one foot and one eye, or of one hand and one eye, or the total loss of hearing of both ears, or the organic loss of speech, shall be deemed total disability for insurance purposes.
