Title 38 › Part III— READJUSTMENT AND RELATED BENEFITS › Chapter 33— POST–9/11 EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE › Subchapter II— EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE › § 3317

Summary

Sets up the Yellow Ribbon G.I. Education Enhancement Program to help pay tuition and mandatory fees when the education benefits under section 3313(c)(1)(A) or 3313(e)(2)(A) do not cover the full cost. Colleges and universities can choose to join and agree to pay part of the leftover cost. When a school agrees to match an equal share, the Secretary must match that school’s contribution as well and may pay up to 50 percent of the remaining tuition and mandatory fees. The program only applies to the covered individuals listed in section 3311(b) paragraphs (1), (2), (8), (9), (10), and (11). The Secretary must make a written agreement with each participating school. Each agreement must say how the school will provide its money (for example, grants or scholarships), the maximum amount the school will give for any student in a year, the maximum number of students the school will support each year, and any other items the parties agree on. Funds available under section 3324(b) may be used for the Secretary’s share. The Secretary must post on the Department’s website a current list of participating schools and the key details of their agreements.
