Title 38 › Part III— READJUSTMENT AND RELATED BENEFITS › Chapter 33— POST–9/11 EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE › Subchapter II— EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE › § 3318
Pays $500 to people who are entitled to educational assistance under this chapter if they live in a county (or similar Census area) with fewer than seven people per square mile, based on the most recent decennial Census. They must either move at least 500 miles to attend a program paid for by those education benefits, or have to fly to the school because there are no roads or other transportation options. To prove residency, a person can use DD Form 214, their most recent Federal income tax return, or other proof the Secretary allows. Each person may get only one $500 payment, and this money is extra on top of any other education benefits they receive under this chapter.
