§728 Misuse of Department Purchase Cards

Summary

The Secretary must bar any Department employee who the Secretary or the Department’s Inspector General finds knowingly misused a purchase card from being a purchase card holder or an approving official. That ban is in addition to any other penalties the employee may face. Misuse means five things: splitting purchases to avoid rules; going over card limits or purchase thresholds; buying items that are not allowed; using a card when you are not an authorized holder; or breaking ethics rules.
