Creates an Office of Rural Health inside the Department of Veterans Affairs under the Office of the Under Secretary for Health. The Office must be led by a Director chosen by the Under Secretary of Health from people who can do the job. The Office must help the Under Secretary do and share research about issues facing veterans in rural areas. It must work with VA staff to develop and spread policies, successful programs, and what has worked to improve care for rural veterans. The Office must name, in each Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), a person to coordinate its activities for rural veterans. The Office must also do other tasks the Secretary or Under Secretary finds appropriate. The Office will have veterans rural health resource centers as satellite offices. Those centers must help the Office understand rural veterans’ challenges, find gaps in care, create better ways to deliver services, and develop tools and programs to use across the Department.
