§7313 Advisory Committees: Affiliated Institutions

Summary

When the Department of Veterans Affairs has a contract with a school, hospital, medical center, or similar nonprofit to train health workers, the Secretary must set up an advisory committee to advise the Secretary and the Under Secretary for Health about program policies and how the program runs. The committee can be campus-wide, cover many fields, or be regional when that makes sense. It can be a dean’s committee, a medical advisory committee, or a similar group. The Secretary picks the members. The group must include VA staff (including full‑time staff) and people from the partner institution. The Secretary decides how many members there are and how long they serve. The Chief of the Nursing Service, or that person’s designee, must be on every policymaking committee at each VA health-care facility, including committees on budget, education, staffing/position management, clinical leadership, planning, resource allocation, and the dean’s or other advisory committee.
