Title 38 › Part V— BOARDS, ADMINISTRATIONS, AND SERVICES › Chapter 74— VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION—PERSONNEL › Subchapter II— COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION › § 7424
The Secretary may pay travel and related costs, but not membership fees, for people named in sections 7306 and 7401(1) (including temporary or part‑time appointees under section 7405) when the Under Secretary for Health sends them to meetings of groups that promote medical and related science. The Secretary can set rules that let nationally recognized principal investigators in medical research who work for the Administration accept cash or noncash payments from non‑Federal groups for travel and reasonable living costs approved by the Secretary. Those payments may be kept to cover the expenses or put back into the same government fund that paid them, as the rules say.
