Summary

The Secretary can pay a health care provider who is not part of an existing contract when that provider gives hospital, medical, or extended care the Secretary finds necessary while care is being provided under a contract, agreement, or other arrangement with the Secretary. The Secretary must make reasonable efforts to arrange a contract or agreement with that provider so future care they give will be covered.
