Eligible institutions can apply to the Secretary for a grant to help run education and clinical projects at a medical facility they are or will be connected with. The projects must grow and improve the school’s ability to train health workers, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other new types of health personnel. The application must include a plan and any details the Secretary asks for. The Secretary will approve a grant only if the projects clearly improve education or training (including continuing education); federal money will be added to other public or private funds or resources; the applicant has proper financial controls and accounting for the federal funds; and the applicant agrees to give required reports, keep records, and allow access so the Secretary can check them.
