The Administrator of General Services may make contracts to preserve, sell, or collect wrecked, abandoned, or derelict property under U.S. jurisdiction if it serves the federal government's interest. Contracts may pay fair compensation to people who report or hand over the property, but the government's costs under each deal cannot exceed what it actually receives.
