§547 Agricultural Commodities, Foods, and Cotton or Woolen Goods

Summary

The Administrator of General Services must work with the Secretary of Agriculture to make rules for getting rid of surplus farm commodities, foods made from them, and surplus cotton or wool goods. The rules must try to stop those surpluses from being dumped on the market in a way that upsets farm prices. The Administrator must give those surplus items free to the Department of Agriculture when the Secretary says it is needed for price support or stabilization. Money from USDA sales must be deposited under the Secretary’s legal authority, and net proceeds from such sales must be credited under section 572(a) of this title. Surplus farm commodities transferred this way cannot be sold for domestic use in larger amounts or at lower prices than the Commodity Credit Corporation uses, though they may be sold for export.
