Title 40 › Subtitle SUBTITLE II— PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND WORKS › Part C— FEDERAL BUILDING COMPLEXES › Chapter 63— SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART, AND JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS › § 6301
Names which buildings and grounds count as "specified buildings and grounds" for the law. It includes the Smithsonian Institution on the National Mall — the main Smithsonian museums and the Smithsonian Building, plus the walks, loading areas, service roads, and parking around them. It also covers the National Zoological Park inside its fence and the public space between that fence and the nearby curbs. It also covers any other land or buildings the Smithsonian buys or temporarily uses if the Smithsonian’s Secretary says they are needed for protection and can be run as part of the Smithsonian. It also includes the National Gallery of Art and the nearby blocks around it bounded by Constitution Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue, Madison Drive, and streets from 3rd to 9th (as laid out in the law), plus any other land the Gallery’s Director finds necessary for protection and administration. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is included with the boundaries shown on map 844/82563 (dated April 20, 1994) as amended by map 844/82563A (dated May 22, 1997), which are kept on file at the National Park Service office.
