Within one year after December 22, 2023 (by December 22, 2024), the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment must send a report to certain congressional committees about the supply chain for covered unmanned aircraft systems. The report must cover current and expected future demand. The report must describe the global and U.S. market for those unmanned aircraft systems that are mainly available only from certain foreign sources; explain how sustainable, available, costly, and high-quality secure domestic and allied sources are; lay out the Secretary of Defense’s plan to fix any gaps, including using funds under the Defense Production Act of 1950 (50 U.S.C. 4501 et seq.) and working with NASA and other partners; and include any other relevant information the Under Secretary chooses. "Appropriate congressional committees" means the listed Senate and House committees, including Armed Services; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (Senate) and Oversight and Accountability (House); Commerce, Science, and Transportation (Senate) and Science, Space, and Technology (House); the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence; House Transportation and Infrastructure; House Homeland Security; and Senate Foreign Relations and House Foreign Affairs.
