Title 42 › Chapter 107— CONSUMER-PATIENT RADIATION HEALTH AND SAFETY › § 10006
The Secretary must use all lawful steps to carry out the goals of this chapter. A State can use a private group to run its accreditation or certification program only if the State gives that group the authority to run it, the State approves the program, and the program meets the federal minimum standards for that program. If States do not follow the chapter within three years after August 13, 1981, the Secretary must tell Congress and suggest law changes to make them comply. A State that had its own standards for accrediting educational programs and certifying radiologic technologists before the federal standards took effect will be treated as following the rules unless the Secretary, after notice and a hearing, finds those standards do not meet the federal minimums or conflict with the chapter’s goals.
