§10242 Office of Nuclear Waste Negotiator

Summary

The law creates an independent Office called the Nuclear Waste Negotiator in the executive branch. The President picks the Negotiator with the Senate’s approval. The Negotiator serves at the President’s pleasure and is paid at the rate for level III of the Executive Schedule in section 5314 of title 5. The Negotiator must try to find a State or Indian tribe willing to host a repository or a monitored retrievable storage facility at a technically qualified site on reasonable terms, and must negotiate with any State or Indian tribe that expresses interest.
