After May 20, 2011, any project sponsor who gets money under this subchapter to offer emergency shelter, transitional housing, or permanent housing for families with children under age 18 must not refuse a family because of the age of a child who is under 18. A transitional housing program paid under this subchapter may serve only families with children in a certain age group only if the program’s main purpose is to use an evidence-based practice that requires that age targeting, and the sponsor gives the assurances the Secretary requires that an equivalent, appropriate alternative living arrangement for the whole family or household unit has been secured.
