Title 42 › Chapter 123— DRUG ABUSE EDUCATION AND PREVENTION › Subchapter I— DRUG EDUCATION AND PREVENTION RELATING TO YOUTH GANGS › § 11801
The Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the Administration on Children, Youth, and Families, must give grants and make contracts to public and nonprofit groups, community organizations with experience, institutions, and individuals. These can include public agencies working together. The money is for projects that: stop or cut down on youth joining gangs that deal with illegal drugs; get youth involved in lawful community activities where drug gangs operate; prevent youth drug use, teach about drug harms, and refer gang members who use drugs to treatment; help local police do education and outreach in affected communities; tell gang members and their families about available drug treatment and rehab; help federal and state agencies work with schools to assist at‑risk students; improve coordination among local schools, juvenile justice, job and social service agencies, and drug treatment programs; and give technical help to eligible groups to plan and run drug education, prevention, treatment, and referral programs for gang‑involved youth.
