Defines three key terms used in this part. Advanced manufacturing technology means the processes, machines, methods, and skills used to make products better, faster, or more energy efficient, or to enable making new kinds of products that improve energy efficiency. Advanced materials means materials made or processed to have much higher performance than normal materials for structural, electronic, magnetic, or light‑based uses, or for joining parts; it covers three groups (monolithic materials like metals, ceramics, polymers; composite materials; and advanced electronic, magnetic, and photonic materials). United States means the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and any other U.S. territory or possession.
