Title 42 › Chapter 8— LOW-INCOME HOUSING › Subchapter I— GENERAL PROGRAM OF ASSISTED HOUSING › § 1437z
Public housing agencies with federal housing contracts must give a federal, state, or local law enforcement officer the current address, Social Security number, and a photograph (if one exists) of any person getting housing help when the officer asks. The officer must give the recipient’s name and tell the agency that the person is either fleeing to avoid being charged or sent to jail for a felony (or, in New Jersey, a high misdemeanor), or is violating probation or parole, or has information needed for the officer’s job. The officer must also say that finding or arresting the person is part of their official duties and that the request is proper.
