Title 42 › Chapter 138— ASSISTED SUICIDE FUNDING RESTRICTION › § 14404
Under section 14402(b), federal funds must not be used to help, support, or pay for activities or legal help that aim to cause a person’s suicide, euthanasia, or mercy killing. This includes getting or funding items or services meant to cause death, forcing anyone or any agency to provide or pay for such things, or arguing for a legal right to cause or help cause someone’s death. This rule applies to money used for several programs, including Subtitle C of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 [42 U.S.C. 15041 et seq.]; the Protection and Advocacy for Mentally Ill Individuals Act of 1986 [42 U.S.C. 10801 et seq.]; section 509 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. 794e); ombudsman programs under the Older Americans Act of 1965 [42 U.S.C. 3001 et seq.]; and legal assistance under the Legal Services Corporation Act [42 U.S.C. 2996 et seq.]. The ban is not limited only to these programs.
