Title 42 › Chapter 9— HOUSING OF PERSONS ENGAGED IN NATIONAL DEFENSE › Subchapter IV— GENERAL PROVISIONS AFFECTING SUBCHAPTERS II TO VII › § 1553
The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development must remove—by demolition or other means—all housing the Secretary decides is temporary and that was built under this subchapter and certain public laws. The removals must happen as soon as reasonably possible and in the public interest, and in any case by July 1, 1954, unless an extension under section 1584 applies. The Secretary may keep only housing found, after talking with local communities, to be still urgently needed because of a serious local shortage. Those exceptions must be checked each year and reported to Congress. No federal law or rule may block efforts to take back housing to carry out this removal or section 1584, unless a later law expressly limits that.
