Title 42 › Chapter 9— HOUSING OF PERSONS ENGAGED IN NATIONAL DEFENSE › Subchapter VII— DISPOSAL OF WAR AND VETERANS’ HOUSING › § 1589
The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development may give, by quitclaim deed and without payment, land and nonresidential buildings to any State for use by the National Guard. This covers land held under subchapters II through VII or under other laws about war or veterans’ housing. The United States must be protected or repaid for transfer costs the Secretary approves. The transfer must say that if the State stops Guard use or tries to sell or give the land away, the United States may take the title back.
